Las night I attended the premier of Airswimming in Pisa. It is the first time it has been performed in Italy. They took the task to translate the text into Italian which is wonderful because this way, this story can reach into the hearts of the Italian public that does not speak English.
The story is about two young women forced to spend their rest of their lives in a asylum because their family were unable to handle them. The play starts with a piece of lecture, followed by the entrance of Dora played by Alice Vannozzi, and right after comes in Persephone confused as to where she is. The two young women share their living space at the asylum, both completely different in personalities and upbringing. Both actresses entrances us with their portray of these two women. They give us laugh and pain at the same time while maintaining the balance between their reality and their imaginary world of air swimming, songs, feminist speeches, and dances. While their lives passes through our eyes, there are drums and the lovely voice of the cabaret singer dressed all in red that reminds us that their crime is their sexuality. The use of props was just amazing. I loved when Persephone goes up the ladder. She looks like a crucified virgin desperate for what we all want "Love". I would not tell you anymore because you have to go and see it for yourself. This is a great opportunity to see the play by Charlotte Jones played by our Off Pisa Off Verdi Actresses! Don't worry Milan, Rome, Bari, and other cities! They will be there!!! A must see for everyone! I am posting just a few photos now, but later on I will post more.
